Washington, D.C. – (May 14, 2022) – Wizards District Gaming has won the NBA 2K League’s first-ever Coinbase SLAM OPEN 3v3 Tournament after sweeping DUX Infinitos 4-0 in the best-of-seven series finals. The tournament is the first mid-season championship in five seasons for the reigning back-to-back NBA 2K League Champions. WDG is the NBA 2K League affiliate of the NBA’s Washington Wizards, both owned by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, and was one of the seventeen inaugural teams in the league when it was launched in 2018.

WDG’s 3v3 lineup featured Ryan “Dayfri” Conger, who was named the SLAM OPEN Tournament MVP, Antonio “Newdini” Newman, and Justin “Just Awkward” Howell. Brandon “B Rich” Richardson and Justin “Kapp” Kaplan also featured in WDG’s lineup during the group stages of the SLAM OPEN. The team was coached by 2021 NBA 2K League Coach of the Year Patrick Crossan, who has been with the franchise since its start.”

Wizards District Gaming qualified for bracket play of the SLAM OPEN by winning its group with a 5-1 record in remote play. In the Round of 16, WDG defeated the lone amateur team to qualify for the knockout rounds, Handlez, 3-2 in a best-of-five series. In the quarterfinals, WDG eliminated Hornets Venom GT 4-1 in the best-of-seven series, and then advanced to the finals of the SLAM OPEN by beating Grizz Gaming 4-2 in the semifinals. In winning the SLAM OPEN, Wizards District Gaming takes home $60,000 of the tournament’s $150,000 prize pool.

With the SLAM OPEN tournament championship, Wizards District Gaming continues an unprecedented run of success in the NBA 2K League. The team has won the last two NBA 2K League Championships and is the only team to make multiple NBA 2K League Finals appearances. The team had a franchise-best 36-11 record in Season 4 (which includes all games played during the regular season, in-season tournaments, and playoff games in Season 4). And is the winningest franchise in the NBA 2K League’s history.
